Getting your name in a KMU merit list for Bacha Khan Medical College (BKMC), Mardan, is the hard part. Joining is the easy part, as long as your file is complete. Students who arrive without a migration certificate, a father’s domicile or an attested undertaking often have to make a second trip, and a missed deadline can cost the seat. This guide lists every document to carry when you report to BKMC for first-year MBBS, why each one is needed and how to prepare your copies.

The short answer: carry your admission/call letter, Matric DMC and certificate, FSc DMC, your and your father’s domicile, your and your father’s CNIC (or Form B), the paid fee receipt, your KMU MDCAT result card, a migration certificate from your board, the student and parent/guardian undertakings on stamp paper, and passport-size photographs. Bring the originals plus two to three sets of photocopies, with one set attested. The college keeps your originals until you leave, so scan everything before you go.

Before you report: pay the fee on time

Under KMU’s policy, a selected candidate who does not deposit the prescribed admission fee within three working days of receiving the admission offer letter loses the admission, with no right to that seat in that institution for the year. The seat goes to the next candidate in the following merit list. Pay first, keep the receipt safe, and then report.

KMU also requires a parent or legal guardian to accompany the candidate at the placement interview. Taking a parent or guardian with you when you report to the college is a good idea too, because the parent’s undertaking and CNIC are part of the file.

The undertakings explained

KMU’s admission policy includes a specimen undertaking to be filled by the father or guardian and submitted to the college. In it, the parent endorses the student’s own undertaking, accepts a liability of Rs 1,00,000 per year of study if the undertaking is breached, and assures that the student will not take part in political activity on campus. It is signed in front of two witnesses and attested by a Deputy Commissioner or First Class Magistrate. Get the exact format from the college or KMU, prepare it on stamp paper, and have it attested before the reporting day so you do not lose a day.

If your father has died, KMU also provides an Affidavit for Guardianship, produced on stamp paper, in which you declare the year of your father’s death and name your guardian, signed by you and the guardian.

How to prepare your photocopies

  • Make two to three complete sets of photocopies of every document. Offices often ask for one set at the desk and another for your personal file.
  • Get one set attested by a gazetted officer (Grade 17 or above), since colleges commonly ask for attested copies alongside originals.
  • Arrange each set in the order of the checklist and keep it in a separate folder, so you can hand it over quickly.
  • Do not laminate original certificates; verification stamps need to be visible and checkable.

Keep a digital copy of everything

KMU’s policy says selected candidates submit all original certificates at the time of admission, and the college keeps them until you leave the institution. You will not have your originals for most of your MBBS. Before you report, scan every original (front and back) with your phone and save the files in two places, such as your email and cloud storage. You will need them for scholarships, verification requests and forms during your studies.

After you join

  • Medical examination: the college’s medical board examines selected candidates, and a candidate found medically unfit is not admitted.
  • Attendance from day one: a first-year student who is continuously absent for four weeks from the start of the session without a valid reason is struck off the roll, and the seat is filled from the waiting list.
  • Upgrades: KMU fills vacant seats through later merit lists on merit and choice; read our guide to KMU merit lists, upgrades and the waiting list.
  • Rules after admission and migration: see KMU rules after admission and the KMU migration policy.
